June 2, 2013

As heavy hearts watched the destruction and tragic events unfold in Oklahoma last month after a tornado ripped through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore, killing 24 people including 10 children and destroying homes and businesses for miles, some of Country Musics finest wasted no time planning a benefit concert for these victims with their "Healing in the Heartland" telethon.  Led by Blake Shelton, and joined by his adorable wife Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, and Rascall Flatts, and put on by NBC airing on both NBC and CMT on May 29th, an astonishing six million dollars was raised to aide in the effort of rebuilding this town.  With more tornadoes touching down in the past week, and more lives lost, it's not surprising to see a second benefit concert is being organized by Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, and Ronnie Dunn.  Using fame to help others is what stardom should really be about. Maybe someone can condense a cliff's note edition of the "how-to's" and send it to Lindsey Lohan and Amanda Bynes?

While taking his time to help others, Blake Shelton also took the time to address the never ending circulation of rumors that seem to plague his marriage to Miranda Lambert.  Asserting once again that their marriage is completely fine, he opened up to US weekly about their solid trust in each-other, and the lack of secrets between them, making his phone, his computer, and all of his drawers accessible at any time to his wife to ensure she never has to worry.  While that may have calmed rumors of HIS infidelity, it seems Life and Style magazine isn't satisfied with the lack of drama they can suck from this couple, and has now issued articles accusing Miranda of getting too close to a few other country artists. Claims are being made that she was throwing herself at Eric Church during her "Revolution Tour", even being asked to leave his bus after constantly trying to be around him, and is currently under suspicion of trying to get close with Dierks Bently on her "locked and reloaded" tour.  I'm sorry, but some people will say ANYTHING to try and make a buck, and I advise you not to buy what they are selling, because there is some serious "Go-GO Gadget"-esque reaching happening there in hopes of stirring trouble.

Speaking of trouble, in some real life trouble for himself is Mr. Clyde Pickler- Kellie Pickler's papa, who has now become a fugitive after violating his probation stemming from a 2003 arrest for stabbing someone.  Released in 2006, news of his violation came quickly after Kellie was awarded the mirror ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, no doubt putting a slight damper on her excitement.  To help with the sad face? How about that adorable little puppy her hubby presented her with? After seeing the excitement in her face when she hosted a charity auction in regards to a maltese, Kellie was given a tiny maltese of her own, in which she appropriately named "Tango" thanks to her high scores from several performances of the Tango with partner Derek Hough.

Closing us out for the day is our Tay-Tay news alert, where we see the drama with rappers and ridiculous swimmers has subsided, and the photo of her obvious disapproval of Selena and Beibers romance has slowed, we now learn in addition to her fragrance "Wonderstruck" and it's follow up "Wonderstruck Enchanted", she is now releasing a new fragrance, called "Taylor" by Taylor. Original.  But, wait, you aren't just getting a fragrance from Ms. Taylor Swift, you also will be receiving a string of pearls. Because that's normal.  Apparently so is releasing several different lines of perfumes from people who should be making their living from singing. But then again- what do I know about being a billionaire? Not. A. Damn. Thing.

And NOT in country news, but in gorgeous couple birthday news- a huge congrats to Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum on the birth of their baby Thursday May 30, 2013! Can't wait to see pictures of the little "Tatum-tot"!

Until next time....

May 13, 2013

Mothers Day has come and gone, and baby watch 2013 is in full effect and currently following Mrs. Blake Shelton (Miranda Lambert) very closely. While tabloid reports vary from the couple divorcing to the couple expecting, one thing is for sure- and that's NOTHING the tabloids say is correct. I find them to be like meteorologist... It doesn't matter what they say, and even though 90% of the time they are wrong, they are STILL employed. If I had to take a guess though between the probability of either of those crappy claims coming true, I'd put money on a baby popping out of her "flower garden" before divorce papers ever being filed.

One on screen mama who didn't have such an awesome weekend, would be Reba McEntire, and her show 'Malibu Country' which was given the axe from ABC. I personally am a big fan of Reba, and loved the show- but it did have a lot of similarities to her last show; Reba, which both showed a woman (ironically named Reba) coming out of a cheating marriage and raising children on her own.  Next time, let's step out of that dysfunctional family idea box, and try something new....

Also up for an axe himself, is Keith Urban, who is reportedly not being brought back for another season of American Idol. If I were him, I would be praising the Gods to be rid of that show. It's SO 2003.  Nicki Minaj and "Mimi" are a train wreck- and not one that even the most sadistic person would like to watch.  I truly believe they single handed (or double handed? sounds kinky...) ruined this show, and with competition from The Voice piled on to the lack of appeal the show itself holds, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire "Idol" show itself got the axe...

In legal news T. Swift is getting sued for not performing- or shall I say not "rescheduling" a performance in Canada. It seems she was supposed to put on a show in Ottawa Canada, in August of 2012, but due to complications and random reasons, the show was cancelled (not due to Taylor herself) yet because ticket buyers wanted their money back (shocking!) the company who sold them the tickets is claiming that Taylor herself should be reimbursing the fans with the money she was paid upfront for the venue...the one that never happened.  While the ticket reimbursement cost $1.8 million dollars, she is being sued for $2.5 million dollars (my math skills tell me something's off, no?). However Taylor and her legal team are claiming her contract had nothing to do with the company who sold the tickets, therefor she is in no way in breach of it, and has no intention of repaying it. With a $17 million ocean front home in her recent purchases, she probably needs that $2.5 million to install a guitar shaped pool equipped with music note slides, and boy band diving boards.

Stepping out of his own legal news from the lawsuit against plagiarism, Brad Paisley had quite the po-po scene at his concert in Indiana. While the place may be called "Noblesville", I'm doubting anyone there is feeling quite so "noble" knowing 54 minors were arrested for illegal possession of alcohol at Brads concert.  How embarrassing..  We'd never heard of your little town before, but that's one way to make a name for yourself.  Cheers! (too soon?)

Brads partner in crime though (allegedly) Ms. Carrie Underwood has her own exciting news going on, as she has now joined with the NFL to take over the theme song for "Sunday Night Football".  She will be replacing Faith Hill, who has been the voice of it since 2007, and will be releasing her own rendition of the hit at the first game of the 2013 NFL season on Sunday September 8 when the Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Giants.  I'm not a football fan, but I'll pretend I am to see her amazing style and hear her phenomenal voice. Who knows, maybe I'll learn to love football? Maybe pigs will fly? Both- are doubtful. Just so you know.

And lastly, wishing a very happy birthday to one of my favorite country stars Darius Rucker who
turns 47 today!  If you are a k-town resident like myself, then don't forget he will be gracing us with his presence May 19th at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, and there is still time to get your tickets!!

Catch up with you later!!

May 7, 2013

The nominations are in, and this years' CMT awards have quite the competition amongst the categories- leading the race in the "just being nominated" category are Luke Bryan, Eric Church, and Miranda Lambort. Each of those artists received four separate nominations-though I'm not sure if Miranda should gain extra points for having three as a solo and one as a group, or have one of those awards maybe not mean so much... I mean, who starts off as a solo artist and then joins a group? Every boy band I've ever loved (read: stalked) worked the opposite- start as a group and THEN branch out on your own.  Country folks are cute and fun, but that doesn't mean everything is working "as it should be" upstairs...

Nominated next to Miranda Lambert in the video of the year category, is Carrie Underwood with "Blown Away" and Brad Paisley for "Southern Comfort Zone".  A breath of fresh air that must be for them, because legal paperwork if finally surfacing in the plagiarism suit against the pair, as well as two of the co-writers on the 2011 hit "Remind Me".  As stated before, our "non-stripper" country starlet Amy Bowen who just so happens to have a stripper-esque stage name of Lizza Connor (though she is not-I repeat NOT a stripper. At least not one that's been confirmed), is holding strong to the claim she penned and performed this song back at a showcase in 2007, where two of the co-writers were present, and is claiming they stole this song and owe her some massive money.  Brad and Carrie however deny this claim, and say the song came to them over a phone call, and neither one had any idea of where the chorus would lead them until discussing it together.  I'm curious as to how a phone call between two people creates a song that's begging to be "reminded" of the times they missed their flights due to early morning boinking and such. Maybe they are just that imaginative? Guess we will see whether or not they truly created this song themselves, or created a very generous donation to the "non-strippers" of America.

Aside from his news and nominations, Brad also has Nashville going for him. That's right, this Wednesday at 10pm Eastern Time on ABC he will be guest starring on the hit show Nashville as none other then himself.  The shows theme involves Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) attending the CMA Awards, and playing on stage with Brad Paisley while trying to figure out their chaotic love story for themselves.  We also see Brad's beauty of a wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley in some hot water as the home wrecking Peggy Kenter, and the drama surrounding her scandalous ways... You won't want to miss this season finale so set your alarm clock or your DVR and make sure to tune in!

Another country star who actually got her start on a television series is the adorable Jana Kramer.  Some of you may remember her as the drug and alcohol addicted train wreck of a model Alex , who over time sobered up and became a decent human being and BFF to Brooke (Sophia Bush) on One Tree Hill, but when she isn't acting on the CW, she's producing some amazing music- and enough to get her nominated for female video of the year AND breakthrough video of the year- both for her song "Why ya Wanna".  In addition to celebrating these nominations, Miss Kramer can also celebrate the fact she's soon going to be Mrs. Gilbert. That's right friends, she's set to marry Brantley Gilbert in the near future- however not in the near future is the release of their duet, which they refer to as a "fighting" song, saying they sing over each other rather than back and forth... Not so sure if that's gonna be a hit or a miss in the world of country music, but best of luck to them on all of their future endeavors.

We can't let a blog go by without talking about little Tay-Tay though, and as reported not only did Harry Styles refer to her as a "pain in the a**", it seems Hova himself (Jay Z for you strictly-country non-rapper readers) is also making a dig at her in his new song on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Referencing the infamous Kanye West incident, Jay Z implies that the entire thing may have actually helped Taylors career, and refers to her as the not-so-nice name we call people that is also used to reference a female dog....  Careful J, you've got a little girl yourself so watch what you say, spread, and sow....

Not to worry for Taylor though, her new song with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban debuted last night, and if you haven't gotten a chance to watch the video, then PLEASE take 5 minutes and do so. Aside from an amazing sound, the message this video portrays is extremely important, as well as extremely relevant in todays society, where people just cannot put down their cell phones for ten minutes.  Centered around a story line of a distraught woman who chooses to text while drive, we watch a tragic story unfold, as well as the devastating aftermath of what can happen. You can watch the video here to see for yourself.

In addition to an amazing PSA, Tim McGraw is also currently donating 31 homes to veterans at each stop on his Two Lanes of Freedom tour.  He generously donated 30 homes last year to veterans and their families, and he's extended his Homefront Program with Chase and Operation Homefront to yet again help out families in need.  High Fives to you Mr. McGraw, what an inspiration.

In up and coming artists, I'd also like to take the time to give a big shout out to country muscian Craig Gerdes. You can head over to his site right now and get your free download of his new song "Haggard Fan".

And lastly, it seems 9 months ago today, nothing exciting must have been happening... And I mean nothing, because there isn't a single country musician celebrating a birthday today. According to my 40 week "I'm not a licensed OB" calendar, that would have put any baby bump making action taking place (or clearly NOT taking place) on or around August 1, so... when they say summer has a "dry spell" I'm gonna go ahead and believe them, and place that time frame right around there...

Catch up with you later!!

May 5, 2013

It's Cinco de Mayo, and it seems many of Country's favorites are recovering from a day at the Derby. Kentucky Derby that is- where they braved the wind and rain to cheer on the horses, sport some intricate head ware, and party like rock stars.

Miranda Lambert, Jo Dee Messina, and Luke Bryan were among several celebs who visited the track, and Mr. Luke Bryan himself gave quite the show at the Friday night Unbridled Eve Gala.

Speaking of Luke, word on the street is he is following the footsteps of several other country musicians who have recently collaborated with a hip-hop rapper, and is working with rapper T. Pain as we speak.  Taylor Swift and B.o.B., Jason Aldean and Ludacris, and Brad Paisley and L.L. Cool J have released some amazing, as well as some controversial ballads as of late- so curiosity has me wondering exactly what type of music we will be seeing/hearing as a result of Luke and T...  It's a mind boggling experiment that can go either way....

In legal news, we are still following Jason Aldean and his pricey divorce for his cheatin' ways (do we hear a new hit song here?) and it seems other than his confirmation of hosting the CMT awards in June, he's managed to stay under the radar.

Being slapped with a lawsuit however, is two of our favorites Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood- as well as the writers for their 2011 hit "Remind me".  It seems a woman in Nashville by the name Amy Bowen, stage name of Lizza Conner (I thought only strippers had stage names??) is claiming she performed this same song back in 2007 and had it copyrighted in 2008.  Brad and Carries legal team have not released any statements, but they don't seem to be backing down from this $10 million dollars in damages suit. Seriously lady? In a matter of 5 years, how exactly could you have lost $10 million dollars, or had anything other than your ego damaged? Some people will do anything for a bit of fame and some money in the bank.

Our angry bird of the day award is being handed to Taylor Swift, who seems to have been given a healthy dose of her own medicine in the new One Direction Behind the Scenes "Tell all".  It's ok for our red lipped, long legged beauty queen to poke fun at her exes, dish their drama, and call them out in a song- but when Harry Styles refers to Ms. Swift as a "pain in the a**", it seems to have her biting at the bit to get revenge. Ok, maybe not "revenge" as in mean girl or a Miranda Lambert s broken heart type revenge- but I see a new song in the making- something like "you called me a pain the a**,  from your little house of glass- but I'm sitting in my house burnin' your pictures to ash, you know- the one I paid for with 17 million cash".   Keep an eye out...

Speaking of Miranda Lambert, her broken heart, and the rumor mill... It seems yesterdays news of Blake and his wandering eye, is now news of a baby on the way.  Luckily for us, both stories are a load of "you know what" and our favorite country couple shared quite the laugh via twitter about their most recent issues circulating the web. Chick is in a song that talks about burning your house down, and a group that calls themselves "Pistol Annie's". You'd have to be back-asswards to cheat on that!  The only romance Blake has going on other than Miranda is his Bromance with Adam Levine on The Voice.  Let me tell you- I can't sing worth a darn, but boy would I give anything to have Adam Levine casually turn around in a chair that lights up and says "I WANT YOU". Um.. yes...

Alongside televisions new favorite show The Voice, we see varied reviews on this season of American Idol. New judge Nicki Minaj has upset quite a few people, and I've got to say I have a REALLY hard time watching her speak.  Its like watching a parrot with dyslexia try to read Japanese. Fo-real.  But, her fellow judge and Country Musics very own Keith Urban seems to be a fan favorite, being voted by Zimbio readers as the "Best American Idol Judge Ever".  That's quite an award- at least from the 1,200 readers who took the time to vote.

If you are still a dedicated fan of this seasons American Idol though, make sure to purchase your tickets for the idol tour, when East Tennessee's own Janelle Arthur will be performing August 6, 2013 at the Thompson-Boling Arena!  Also coming to K-town is Darius Rucker with Rodney Atkins and Jana Kramer, Sunday May 19th at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum,  and Blake Sheltons 'Ten Times Crazier 2013 Tour' Friday September 27 at the Thompson-Boling Arena, with guests Easton Corbin and Jana Kramer.  Can we say "amazing"? Because those show are guaranteed to be Ah-Mazing.

And Lastly, some birthday love goes out to Ms. Tammy Wynette who would have been 71 today.

Catch up with you soon!

xx Jamie

May 3, 2013

We start off with sad news in the country world, as we bid farewell to the legend George Jones, and today's hot music makers such as Brad Paisley, Kid Rock, and Alan Jackson, to name a few, take the time to say goodbye at his lavish funeral held last night. Known as "Possum" to many, George graced country music for several decades and has left a lasting impression on generations who no doubt will carry on his music with them even though he's gone. We wish his family peace during this time, and bet there's one heck of a concert going on up in the clouds right now.

For those of you who adore the show "Nashville" as much as I do, not only do we get to see charming Mrs. Paisley grace our screen each Wednesday night as the homewrecker Peggy Kenter, but it looks like Mr. Boyish good-looks himself will be joining the show, playing none other than... himself! What a way to end the season of a kick-butt show. And, for those of you who crave more insight in to these two lovebirds, you can check out the newest real eastate listing in Pacific Palisades, where the Paisley palace itself is listed for a mere $2,995,000! Could this mean this family of four will be relocating to their home in Franklin TN, which just so happens to be somewhat near Nashville (at least in the same state) and hint at a sneak peak of Brad joining the cast of Nashville in a more permanent way? We can hope!

Speaking of Brad, I'd love to hear your input on his new controversial song with LL Cool J. Do we love it? Are we offended? It's about time something sparked some emotion other than Taylor Swift and her revolving door of teenage men side-jobing as inspiration for her heartbreak ballads!

As a pricey divorce heads his way, at least Jason Aldean can smile about his confirmed gig along with Kristen Bell as they host the 2013 CMT Music Awards on June 5. With rumors circulating of figures ranging in the...wait for it... 20 MILLION DOLLAR range... *gasp* he should be signing up for any and every gig that comes his way! Best of luck to you on this one, but karma's a B***h, and that's what you get for the traveling tongue!

Lastly, sending big birthday wishes to the following:

Country singer Eric Church turns 36, Shane Minor turns 45, Brad Martin turns 40, and bassist John Hopkins of Zac Brown Band turns 42!

Catch up with you soon!

xx Jamie
